Lookman Nominated For Atalanta’s Goal Of Season Award
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has been nominated for Atalanta’s goal of the season award for the 2024-25 season.
Lookman’s stunning goal in the 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League was nominated for the goal of the season’s honour.
The former Leipzig forward fired an unstoppable strike past Thibaut Courtois for Atalanta’s second goal against Real Madrid.
Lookman’s goal against Empoli in a Serie A encounter which ended 5-0 in favour of Atalanta was also nominated for the award.
He latched on to a sublime pass from Mateo Retegui, and dribbled past the goalkeeper before slotting the ball into an empty net.
He was named the Man of the match in both encounters.
Lookman further established his importance to Atalanta with 22 goals, and six assists in all competitions last season.
Meanwhile, Former Italy manager, Fabio Capello has urged Atalanta to keep Lookman ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Lookman has been linked with a move away from the club this summer with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, and Barcelona interested in making a move for him.
He said: “The real challenge [for Atalanta] will be keeping top players like Ederson and Lookman. If Atalanta’s management can resist transfer market pressure, then I don’t think the team needs significant changes.”
Similarly, Atalanta’s new coach, Ivan Juric wants the team to keep Lookman ahead of the new season.
He said: “The idea would be to keep both Lookman and Ederson, even if the club has clear ideas on the market and I have not made any request on players, not even on those I have had.”
Atalanta finished third in the Italian Serie A last season with 74 points from 38 games to qualify for the Champions League.
