Liverpool have completed the signing of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for 35m euros ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The Dutch right-back signed a five-year deal at Anfield on Friday to become the club’s latest signing and a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is joining Real Madrid.
Liverpool confirmed earlier in the day that Alexander-Arnold will be joining Real Madrid for a reported fee of 10m euros to enable him to join the Spanish giants before his contract expires in July.
The arrangement was made to allow Alexander-Arnold to feature for Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup in June.
Frimpong is highly rated, and he is regarded as one of the best defenders in the world due to his attack-minded style of play.
He played a vital role in leading Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga and the German Cup double in 2024.
Frimpong made his debut with the senior Dutch national team in October 2023 and has 12 caps and one goal for his country to date.
He expressed his delight at the opportunity to join Liverpool while hoping to lead the club to more success in the future.
Frimpong said, “I spoke to the manager a few times. He sounds very positive. He says I can bring a lot of energy and my qualities, my speed.
“Especially when a manager is talking positively about you, it gives you very good confidence that he believes in you. I’ve had good conversations with him.
“I’m really excited [to work with Arne Slot]. Even when I was at [the] national team, some of the Feyenoord boys would tell me about him and be like, ‘He’s the best coach I’ve ever had.’ Things like this.
“So, I’ve always heard good things about the coach. Now he’s going to be my coach, so I’m excited for that.”
Similarly, Liverpool are in advanced discussions with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Florian Wirtz in a £109m deal.
