ABUJA — Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan, former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, former Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, Senator Ita Enang, and Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Suleiman, are among dignitaries expected at the launch of a new book on Nigeria’s legislature in Abuja on Monday.

The book, titled The Nigerian Legislature: Understanding Its Impact on Democratic Governance and National Development, was written by Ezrel Tabiowo, Special Adviser (Media) to former Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

In a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, Tabiowo said the 530-page book provides a comprehensive examination of the evolution, functions and challenges of Nigeria’s legislative institution.

According to him, the book traces the development of the legislature from pre-colonial deliberative traditions through colonial rule, military interventions and its current role under the presidential system of the Fourth Republic.

He said the publication analyses the legislature’s constitutional responsibilities, including lawmaking, appropriation, oversight and representation, while offering recommendations for strengthening the institution.

The statement added that the book features forewords by Ndoma-Egba, former Leader of the Seventh Senate and Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, and Adoke, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

The book review will be delivered by Senator Ita Enang, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany and former Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters.

Lawan, who served as President of the Ninth Senate and currently chairs the Senate Committee on Defence, will serve as the chief host of the event.

Other expected guests include Prof. Abubakar Suleiman, Director-General of NILDS, who will serve as book presenter.

The launch is scheduled to hold at the National Assembly Library Conference Hall, Abuja, on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 12 noon.

Tabiowo, a former Chief Legislative Correspondent and Chairman of the Senate Press Corps, currently serves as Secretary-General of the West African Parliamentary Press Corps. His experience covering the National Assembly and serving as Chief Press Secretary to the President of the Ninth Senate formed the foundation for the book.
