A Spanish football federation judge, José Alberto Peláez, has thrown out Real Madrid’s request to move their opening LaLiga fixture against Osasuna.
Los Blancos made the request due to their involvement in the Club World Cup.
Xabi Alonso’s men played their last game at the tournament on July 9, losing 4-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinal.
Their first league game has been scheduled for August 19, which is 41 days after the match against PSG.
Madrid argued that date was “a breach of the minimum period of rest and preparation” as contained in the collective agreement which governs professional football in Spain.
However, in a judgment on Thursday, Peláez dismissed their request.
According to the judge, Madrid’s players had begun their period of rest on July 11, and have therefore enjoyed the 21 days of uninterrupted rest set out in the collective agreement.
