The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit has impounded 79 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, for violating the ban on plying restricted highways in the state.

The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday, where he stressed the agency’s commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and ensuring public safety.

According to Hundeyin, the enforcement operation, conducted on Wednesday, is part of the agency’s routine crackdown on erring Okada riders who flout the state’s restriction order.

“The agency embarked on its daily routine enforcement of a ban on commercial motorcycles across major highways and restricted routes in the state,” he said.

The operation, which commenced around 11:00 a.m., was carried out in key areas, including Berger Suya, Kirikiri Road, 2nd Rainbow Bridge, and Apple Junction inward Festac.

“A total of 79 commercial motorcycles were impounded in the areas visited,” Hundeyin confirmed.

Hundeyin noted that there was minor resistance in the Berger Suya area.

“The operation was hitch-free except in Berger Suya, where there was a pocket of resistance, which was matched with minimal force and the tactical superiority of our men,” he explained.

He, however, assured that all operations were conducted with professionalism and respect for human rights.

“In all the areas visited, the operation was conducted with the highest degree of civility and professionalism,” Hundeyin said.
