Lagos salesgirl, 17, allegedly stabbed to death by employer over minor dispute

Lagos residents are in shock following the tragic death of 17-year-old Ihechidere Favour Uka, who was allegedly killed by her employer, 30-year-old Ibekwe Ezinne Mary.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at a cosmetics shop where Ihechidere worked as a salesgirl. Reports indicate that a minor disagreement between the two escalated into violence.

According to family sources, Ihechidere had been asked to bring an item and returned later than expected, sparking a heated argument. Witnesses and relatives say that during the confrontation, Ezinne allegedly slapped Ihechidere, who reportedly slapped her employer once in return. The situation then escalated, and the employer allegedly stabbed Ihechidere in the chest with a kitchen knife.

Ihechidere reportedly bled heavily from the wound and later died despite efforts to save her. The news of her death quickly spread within the community, eliciting grief and outrage over the safety of young workers in Nigeria.

Family members described Ihechidere as hardworking and responsible, taking the job to support herself and reduce the financial burden on her loved ones. They emphasize that her death is not only a personal loss but also a warning about the vulnerabilities of young workers.
