Lagos Police Recover Voter Cards, Guns From Cultism Suspect

Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos State, have arrested a 45-year-old man for alleged cultism and illegal possession of firearms.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer, CSP Umma Ayuba, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, disclosing that the operation was carried out based on intelligence received by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade.

According to the statement, the intelligence indicated that suspected members of the Eiye fraternity were planning criminal activities in the Ijebu-Ife area of Ogun State.

“With the intelligence at the disposal of the AIG about the criminal activities, hideout, and plans of some suspected members of the Eiye fraternity terrorizing the Ijebu-Ife axis of Ogun, the Officer-in-Charge of Zonal Dragon Squad II, DSP Akeem Adeyemi, was deployed for a discrete operation,” Ayuba stated.

He noted that, on March 19, the police raided the suspects’ hideout while they were allegedly planning an attack.

“On March 19, the hideout of the said cult group was raided while they were planning an attack, the suspect was apprehended as others escaped through a nearby bush,” the statement read

Ayuba stated that the suspect was arrested, while others managed to escape through a nearby bush.

The suspect later led the operatives to his residence, where security personnel recovered various incriminating items, including—One locally made single-barrel pistol, Six live cartridges, 21 voter cards bearing different names (suspected to be fake), and One emerald pump-action gun with breach No. 1335

“One locally made single barrel pistol, six live cartridges, 21 voter cards with different names (suspected to be fake) and one emerald pump action gun with breach No. 1335 were recovered,” Ayuba said.

Ayuba added that an investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.

The PPRO reiterated police commitment to tackling cultism and other forms of crime in Lagos and Ogun states.

The police also urged residents to report suspicious activities in their communities to help maintain law and order.
