There is fear and anger in the Agwa community in Oguta local government area of Imo State as suspected herdsmen killed five people and kidnapped three on Wednesday.

The latest attack makes it three attacks in two weeks, community leaders have said.

The attack also left scores injured, according to the community leaders, who blamed gun wielding Fulani herdsmen for the development.

Confirming the attack, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma condemned the attack and deployed the Commands Tactical Units in synergy with sister agencies and the local Vigilante group to go after the criminals.

According to the Commands Spokesperson Henry Okoye, the command is fully equipped with resources and intelligence for the task and revealed the Assistant C Commissioner of Police, has also launched a targeted manhunt for the criminals in suspected hideouts and forest areas.

He said :”The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has deployed the Command’s Tactical Units, equipped with the available resource and intelligence to work closely with other security agencies and local vigilantes, to track down the bandits responsible for the recent disturbances in Agwa Community on June 4, 2025.

“Regrettably, the incident caused three casualties and a few injuries.

“Consequently, the Assistant C Commissioner of Police Operations has launched a well coordinated search operation across targeted locations, including forest areas and suspected hideouts.

“This effort aims to swiftly apprehend those responsible and ensure they face justice.

“In addition to the operational response, the CP has strongly condemned the violence and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to carry out a thorough investigation to apprehend the culprits.

“CP Danjuma further extends his deepest condolences to the families affected and assures residents of Agwa and neighboring communities that the situation is fully under control.

“Enhanced security measures have been put in place to prevent any recurrence.

“The Command therefore urges the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear, reassuring that security has been significantly strengthened.

“It also appeals to anyone with useful information to assist the investigation by reporting to the nearest police station or contacting the dedicated hotline at 0803 477 3600.”
