A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has convicted and sentenced 15 Chinese nationals for offences bordering on cyberterrorism and internet fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, secured the convictions before Justices Ayokunle Faji and Dehinde Dipeolu.

In a statement released via its X handle on Thursday, the EFCC said the convicts were arraigned on separate charges related to their involvement in sophisticated cybercrime and internet-related offences.

According to the anti-graft agency, the convicts are Ling Yang, Xiao Hong Will, Wang Zheng Ming, Wang Jia Qi, Yang Sheng, Peng Sen Lin, and Guo Xiao Fei.

Others are Chen An Shun, Zhao Ying Bin, Yu Zi (also known as Wei Xue Huan), Zhang Yang, Wang Zhi Cheng, and Lu Yubo.

“The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of 15 Chinese nationals for cyberterrorism and internet fraud before two Federal High Court Judges sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos,” the statement read.

The convictions come just weeks after 14 other Chinese citizens were similarly sentenced for related crimes.

In that previous case on June 27, Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court in Lagos handed down judgments after the EFCC established their involvement in a transnational cybercrime syndicate.

The syndicate, according to the anti-graft agency, specialised in online scams, identity theft, and digital espionage targeting both Nigerian and foreign victims.
