A 60-year-old man, Wasiu Babatunde Adeniran, drowned on Tuesday after falling off his motorcycle along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Alakuko, Lagos State, during a downpour.

According to a police report seen by THE WHISTLER, the incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m., when Adeniran lost control of his bike amid intense rainfall and was swept away by floodwaters.

It was gathered that the force of the flood dragged both the rider and his motorcycle down the expressway.

While the motorcycle was recovered two hours later, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the search for the missing man continued through the night.

His body was eventually found the following morning at around 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, in Obasanjo River, Ota, Ogun State—several kilometers from where the incident occurred.

“On 21/05/25 at about 1230hrs, a report was received that, on 20/05/25 at about 1600hrs, one Wasiu Babatunde Adeniran ‘m’ aged 60yrs, a motorcycle rider, fell off his motorcycle while he was riding it along Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway, Alakuko in the heavy rainfall.

“As a result, he was dragged by the flood along with the motorcycle. However, the motorcycle was recovered at about 1800hrs of 20/05/25 while the body was found at Obasanjo River, Ota, Ogun State at about 0900hrs of 21/05/25,” the report read.

A police team visited the scene of the fall. The deceased’s body was photographed for documentation and later deposited at a public morgue for autopsy.

The police confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
