L-R: Human Rights activist, Olamide Thomas and President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted N10m bail to human rights activist, Olamide Thomas, after being arrested for allegedly threatening President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and Police Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi, in a viral social media post.

Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling on Monday, granted Thomas bail with one surety in like sum.

The case, with suit number F/HE/ARS/CR/636/2024, lists the Inspector General of Police as the complainant.

At Monday’s proceedings, Thomas’ legal team, led by Dr. S. M. Oyeghe and J. A. Ekwe, moved a motion for bail on her behalf, while the prosecution did not appear.

Justice Nwite held that there was insufficient evidence to suggest that Thomas would jump bail if granted.

The judge ordered that the surety be a resident within the court’s jurisdiction, and provide a three-year tax clearance certificate, two recent passport photographs, and an affidavit of means.

Justice Nwite subsequently adjourned the trial to February 21, 2025.

Thomas was arrested by the police on December 13, in her home in the Somolu area of Lagos following a post on Facebook where she said Seyi Tinubu would die before the end of 2024.

She was later transferred to Abuja where she was detained for several days without being charged to court.

The rights activist was eventually arraigned before the Federal High Court, Abuja on December 20 but her bail application was stalled multiple times, leading to her remand in the Suleja Custodial Centre.
