Kwankwaso Reaffirms Faith In NNPP, Slams Defectors

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has reaffirmed his faith in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as he slammed defectors for betraying public trust.

According to him, it’s a serious breach of public trust on the part of politicians who abandon their political parties after being elected by voters.

The presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 general election spoke against the backdrop of the recent defection of some NNPP chieftains to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He assured new NNPP supporters from the Takai local government area who thronged his Kano residence on Saturday that the party will always protect their interests.

Commenting on the ongoing gale of defections to the APC, Kwankwaso knocked the defectors for switching loyalty to the APC after gaining elective positions through grassroots support.

The trend, he said, undermines democracy and disrespects the people who voted in good faith.

He told his audience that the Kwankwasiyya political movement has continued to grow in strength and resilience.

The group, he said, has been learning from past elections and remaining focused on empowering ordinary Nigerians.

“This struggle was never about cash or contracts. It’s a commitment to social justice. In Kano, people refused to sell their future for small handouts. That’s why we stood strong,” he said.

Kwankwaso emphasised that political loyalty should not be transactional and warned that betrayal for personal gain could lead to long-term consequences.

He described the Kwankwasiya movement as a unified force that cannot be easily broken by external pressures.

“The people now know better. Whether someone gets an appointment or not, this is bigger than individual gain. It’s about changing lives,” he said.

The former governor urged NNPP members to remain united and continue building strong grassroots connections, stressing that the party remains a home for those who believe in service and accountability.

While welcoming the new entrants into the party, he assured them that the NNPP would keep expanding its base across the country by focusing on the needs of the ordinary citizen.
