Keep to Your Words to Restore Peace and Order in Plateau

Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President of Nigeria, has reminded Bola Ahmed Tinubu to keep his promise that the deadly Palm Sunday attack in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, will not repeat itself, news.ng reports.

Atiku gave the reminder in a post on X on Monday evening following reports of a recent attack in Benue that claimed an unconfirmed number of lives.

According to reports, tragedy also struck Plateau State as armed bandits invaded Pwomol Village in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, killing three vigilante youths and leaving another critically injured over the weekend.

Recall that last Thursday, President Tinubu, during a brief visit to Plateau State, vowed to restore peace and order to the state, declaring that the shackles of violence, shackles of ignorance, shackles of poverty, shackles of hopelessness must break.

However, his promise has not yielded any results, as the former Vice President described Tinubu’s recent assurances as “hollow rhetoric” amid escalating insecurity.

“I wish to remind President Bola Tinubu to keep to his words that ‘this (Angwan Rukuba attack) will not repeat itself. It does appear that those words are hollow because barely 72 hours, another attack in Benue State claimed over a dozen lives,” he stated.

While expressing concern over the fresh attack, Atiku reiterated that it is the duty of the government to secure the lives and property of the people while ensuring their welfare, as enshrined in the constitution.

“I am also concerned, like all well-meaning Nigerians, about what is going on in a Nasarawa community where families had fled on foot amid threats of attack.

“The primary responsibility of government is the protection of lives and property and the promotion of the welfare of citizens,” he said.

He, therefore, called on President Tinubu to match his words with actions in addressing this menace.

“Enough of this hollow rhetoric, Mr President. It is time to fold your sleeves and get to work,” he declared.
