Kebbi: NEMA simulates flood disaster amid rising risk
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, in collaboration with the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, on Monday, held a flood simulation exercise at the Trade Fair Complex in Birnin Kebbi, aimed at strengthening response capacity in the face of rising flood threats.
The drill brought together emergency responders, security agencies, local divers, humanitarian officials, and residents from flood-prone communities to simulate coordinated action during a flood emergency.
NEMA’s North-West Director, Sani Lokoja-Alhaji, said the exercise was essential as climate change, deforestation, and activities along riverbanks continue to increase the vulnerability of many communities in Kebbi and other parts of the North-West.
He warned that floods during the peak of the rainy season pose serious threats to lives, infrastructure, and livelihoods across the state, stressing the need for proactive planning and coordinated response.
Participants included officials from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Civil Defence, FRSC, Federal Fire Service, and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
