Kano University Shuts Down Female Hostel Over Immorality, Violence
The management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure of the Al-Ansar Indabo female students’ hostels in Kano due to safety and disciplinary concerns.
The decision was announced in a statement by the university’s Vice President, Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba.
“I am directed by the management to write, inform, and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents and students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo female students hostels located at UDB Road and Hotoro,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the hostels failed to comply with the university’s regulations, leading to various infractions, including reports of immoral behavior, poor amenities, student violence, and unauthorized movement at night.
“These issues pose a serious threat to the well-being of our students,” the statement said.
The university directed all affected students to vacate the hostels immediately after the current semester examinations and warned them against further association with the facilities.
The management said it is working closely with security agencies to ensure compliance with the directive and had advised students and parents to contact the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life, for guidance on approved and secure hostel options.
The university also stated that it will not take responsibility for any consequences arising from non-compliance with the directive.
