Kano Teaching Hospital Denies Unauthorised Removal Of Patient’s Womb

The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano State has dismissed claims circulating on social media that a patient’s womb was removed without her permission by the hospital staff in 2017.

A patient had reportedly claimed on a Kaduna radio show that her womb was removed without consent at the hospital.

However, a statement signed by the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Abdurrahman Sheshe, on Wednesday, described the allegation as baseless and unfounded.

Sheshe admitted that the patient in question underwent life-saving surgery in 2012 due to complications during pregnancy but added that proper consent was obtained before the procedure.

“The allegations are unfounded and do not reflect the hospital’s standards of care. The surgery was conducted to save the patient’s life, and all protocols, including obtaining informed consent, were followed,” he said.

He added that the hospital has further forwarded the case details to the Federal Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies.

“We remain committed to upholding transparency and will fully cooperate with relevant authorities to ensure the truth prevails,” he said.

Sheshe appealed to the public to discountenance the allegations, reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to delivering top-notch healthcare services to Nigerians.
