Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, has declared a total ban on all Durbar activities across the state during the 2025 Eid-El-Kabir celebrations, citing security concerns.

The directive was issued on Tuesday through the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Abdullahi, who urged the Muslim faithful to remain law-abiding during the festivities scheduled for Friday, June 6.

According to Abdullahi, the ban aims to ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration across Kano and was implemented following intelligence reports suggesting potential threats to public safety.

He emphasized that adequate pre-emptive measures had already been taken in collaboration with other security agencies.

Abdullahi recalled that a similar ban was enforced during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.

He noted that the current decision stems from credible intelligence warning of attempts by “recruited miscreants and their sponsors” to use the Durbar festivities to “undermine security and public order in the state, as recorded during Eid-El-Fitr Sallah.”

“The Command therefore, reiterates that the ban on all forms of Durbar in the state is still in force and will be strictly enforced during this 2025 Eid-El-Kabir celebrations, as the threats which have been put to serious checks are still potent,” Abdullahi stated.

“This decision is made after consultations with relevant security stakeholders following intelligence reports indicating plans by recruited miscreants and their sponsors to use Durbar to undermine security and public order in the state, as recorded during Eid-El-Fitr Sallah,” he added.

To maintain public safety during the celebrations, the police listed several prohibited actions, including:

No horse/animal riding of any kind (Kilisa).
No car racing, reckless, or dangerous driving.
No unlawful possession or reckless display of firearms or weapons.
No carrying of unnecessary or dangerous objects that may trigger suspicion or apprehension.

The Command also advised parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against being manipulated by subversive groups, warning that security personnel would be deployed to enforce the restrictions fully.

“Members of the public are warned to desist from any act or conduct that may likely cause a breach of the peace or breakdown of law and order,” the police spokesperson warned.

He also remembered the athletes from Kano who lost their lives while returning from the National Sports Festival, urging the public to honour them during the celebrations.
