Kano man gets 50 strokes of cane for stealing roofing sheets
A 35-year-old man, Sabiu Abdullahi, is to be given 50 strokes of cane as ordered by a Sharia Court for stealing five pieces of roofing sheets in Kano.
The victim pleaded guilty to the offence before the court after he was charged with trespass and theft.
Abdullahi, who lives at Mariri Quarters, Kano, was charged with trespass and theft, contrary to sections 134 and 287 of the Kano State Penal Code Law by the prosecution counsel, Zahradeen Abubakar.
The court was told that on 21st July, one Anas Yakubu of Tamburawa Quarters reported the matter at the Mariri Police Station.
Abubakar said the defendant stole the roofing sheets in the complainant’s residence, during his absence.
Malam Umar Lawal, the judge of the court, ordered that the defendant be given 50 strokes of the cane.
