Kano Man Arrested 47 Days After Murder
The Kano State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of 35-year-old Shu’aibu Abdulkadir, a suspect in the brutal murder of 22-year-old Rumaisa Haruna in her home.
The arrest of Abdulkadir, a resident of Madatai Quarters in Kano, came 47 days after the crime was committed following an intensive investigation and intelligence-led operations.
The suspect was taken into custody on May 23, 2025, following the murder that occurred on April 6, 2025, in Tsamiyar Duhuwa, Farawa Quarters, Kano.
Abdulkadir reportedly confessed to the crime during police interrogation.
He admitted to trespassing into the victim’s matrimonial home where he “strangled and stabbed her in the neck, resulting in her death”.
The deceased was discovered by her husband, Ibrahim Mohammed, with life-threatening neck injuries.
She was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
According to the commands Public Relations Officer SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, Abdulkadir remains in custody pending the completion of the investigations.
The police also noted that he will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
“The suspect, currently in custody, is helping further investigation to ensure full justice is served,” the Command stated.
While speaking on the matter, Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, urged residents of Kano to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.
“The Command assures the public of its commitment to safeguarding all residents and maintaining peace and order in the state,” the Police said.
