The Kano State Fire Service has stated that it rescued 30 persons and saved properties valued at approximately N566m from 176 fire incidents recorded between March and April 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi.

Abdullahi said the state witnessed the tragic loss of 20 lives and the destruction of properties worth over N4.5bn during the same period.

The Service also said it responded to 26 emergency calls and six false alarms from residents.

The PRO stressed the importance of fire safety and urged residents to handle fire with care and ensure all electrical appliances are turned off before leaving homes, shops, or marketplaces, and to adhere to safety protocols to mitigate the risk of fire outbreaks.

The recent report follows a trend of fire incidents in the state. In January 2025, a fire outbreak claimed six lives while six others were rescued, with properties worth over N1.1bn saved during that month alone.

Earlier, between September and October 2024, the fire service rescued 27 people and saved properties valued at N370m from 54 fire incidents.
