A fire outbreak in Kano State claimed six lives while six others were rescued in January 2025.

Firefighters also saved properties worth N1,196,950,600 during the period under review, according to the State Fire Service.

An official of the Fire Service, Kabiru Isah Jaafar, who spoke on behalf of the agency’s spokesman, Saminu Yusif, on Tuesday confirmed the figures.

“The Fire Service, under the supervision of the Director, Alhaji Sani Anas, in January 2025, received emergency calls from our 29 fire stations across the state in the month under review,” Jaafar stated

According to him, the fire Service responded to 56 calls, seven false alarms, and carried out 10 rescue missions.

“On behalf of PRO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the State Fire Service, under the leadership of overseeing Director Alh. Sani Anas, in January 2025, received emergency calls from our 29 fire stations across the state. In the month under review, we received fire calls, rescue calls, and false alarms,” the statement read.

Jaafar urged residents to exercise extreme caution to prevent fire incidents, particularly during the harmattan season, when dry and windy conditions increase fire risks.

He also advised motorists to adhere to traffic regulations.

“I will use this opportunity to draw the attention of the general public to handle fire with care to avoid fire incidents, especially during this harmattan period.

“All motorists are urged to drive with care, as well as abide by traffic laws, especially when travelling on highways to avoid road accidents,” he added.
