Kano: Bomb threat forces security alert at phone market

There was tension at the Bata Phone Market in Kano after unidentified individuals sent bomb threat messages to the market’s chairman.

The market chairman, Mahrazu Usman Lawan, confirmed the incident to Arewa Update.

He said the threats started arriving on his phone on Sunday evening, with the senders demanding 10 million naira to “save the market.” They warned that if their demand was not met, they had planted bombs in seven shops.

Following this, the market authorities informed security agencies, who continued discussions and strategies while the threats escalated to direct phone calls.

He stated that security personnel came and thoroughly searched the market but found no explosives, leading to the market reopening until 5 PM on Monday.

He further revealed that even by midday, they were still receiving threatening messages warning them to “wait for Monday night.”
