Kaduna State, WHO partnership improves immunisation – Gov Uba Sani
The governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has noted that the partnership between Kaduna State and the World Health Organization, WHO, has significantly improved immunisation coverage and enhanced the prevention and control of disease outbreaks across the state.
Speaking during an advocacy visit by the State WHO Team in Kaduna, the governor emphasised that the collaboration has also strengthened surveillance systems and continues to promote universal health coverage within the state.
Dr Hadiza Balarabe, the deputy governor, who represented the governor at the meeting, stated that the technical and operational support provided by the WHO team has enabled the state to respond swiftly and effectively to a range of health challenges, from polio eradication to addressing both endemic and epidemic diseases.
Dr Balarabe stated that the visit provided an opportunity to deepen collaboration, align priorities, and jointly explore new strategies to meet the persistent and emerging health needs of Kaduna’s communities.
She explained, “We are especially keen to strengthen local capacity, ensure sustainability of health interventions, and reach underserved populations.”
The deputy governor reaffirmed Kaduna State’s commitment to investing in the health and well-being of its people, noting that through strategic reforms and infrastructure development, the state has expanded access to primary health care, improved maternal and child health services, and bolstered its disease surveillance architecture.
Acknowledging that more work remains to be done in achieving a resilient, equitable, and people-centred healthcare delivery system, he expressed gratitude to WHO for its continued support to both Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole in advancing public health, strengthening health systems, and responding to emergencies.
She assured that the state will continue to create an enabling environment for the WHO’s work and ensure that their shared goals translate into tangible improvements in health outcomes across the state.
