Kaduna Gov’s Support For Tinubu Induced By N150bn Grants—El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and the Immediate Past Governor, Nasir El-Rufai

The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that incumbent governor Uba Sani’s support for President Bola Tinubu was induced by a N150 billion largess he received from the federal government in the past 18 months.

According to El-Rufai, Governor Sani received the money as federal reimbursements, interventions and grants for Kaduna State, which he said explained the governor’s growing support for the president.

El-Rufai stated on his verified X handle on Tuesday, “Every day I see this governor embarrassingly and sycophantically rambling, I used to wonder why? However, confirming that the federal government ‘reimbursements, interventions, and grants’ over N150bn have been given selectively to Kaduna by Tinubu in the last 18 months now explains everything. By all means, defend Asiwaju for the conditional cash transfer. Asiwaju has earned it, coming from you. The people of Kaduna State will judge at the right time and place. Have a nice day.”

El-Rufai’s outburst was a direct response to Governor Sani’s castigation of Tinubu’s critics, especially those in the same ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the president.

Recall that lately, El-Rufai has been vocal in his criticism of President Tinubu’s leadership style, including the president’s perceived poor handling of the APC structure at the national level.

In a veiled reference to El-Rufai and others, Governor Sani, during an interview on TVC on Monday, had wondered why some leading APC chieftains have continued to openly antagonise President Tinubu’s policies.

The governor had, during the interview, decried the position taken by the dissenting APC leaders, describing their actions as “unfortunate” and “undemocratic.”

The governor urged the president’s critics, who believe they can unseat him, to wait until the 2027 election to test their popularity.

Governor Sani said, “I was really surprised when I heard the coalition of politicians coming together at this critical time to make most of those comments they made. Some of them were even calling for people to come out and take laws into their hands.

“Of course, I also want to make it clear here that we are in a democratic dispensation, and we have just about two and a half years to the next election. Any politician who feels he is popular or can defeat Bola Ahmed Tinubu or the APC should work hard and present themselves in the next election.”

President Tinubu’s leadership style and economic policies have come under scathing criticism from the opposition and some APC chieftains who feel alienated by the ruling party.
