JUSUN Suspends Strike After CJN’s Intervention

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its nationwide strike, which began on Monday, following the intervention of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and other key stakeholders.

The decision was announced in a communique released Tuesday, after extensive deliberations between union representatives and officials from the judiciary, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and other relevant bodies.

According to the communique, all parties agreed to a one-month window for negotiations, during which the federal government is expected to release funds to the judiciary.

JUSUN stated that upon release of these funds, its key demands — including the implementation of the new ₦70,000 minimum wage, a 25/35 per cent salary increase, and the payment of five months’ wage awards with arrears — must be addressed immediately.

“In view of the intervention by the CJN and following assurances from relevant authorities, the union has resolved to suspend the ongoing industrial action. All members are directed to resume work on Wednesday,” the communique stated.

The strike, which began on Monday, led to the shutdown of courts, including the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal in Abuja, and saw judiciary workers lock out judges, lawyers, and litigants.
