Jigawa Police Nab 14 After Attack On Dumus Village
The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 14 suspects during a raid on a criminal hideout in Digawa village, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, following a deadly attack on Dumus village.
The raid on June 12 was conducted by a joint team of security operatives based on intelligence linking the suspects to a criminal syndicate engaged in fraud and other illegal activities.
Police spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, in a statement issued in Dutse, said the operation led to the recovery of several weapons and other incriminating materials.
Items recovered include nine fabricated pistols, 27 Dane guns, 37 gun pieces, four motorcycles, 12 pieces of fake US dollars, and 188 suspected counterfeit Central African currency notes.
Other seized items were bows and arrows, metals, animal skin, a file, a saw, a vice, a blower, and various charms believed to be used for criminal purposes.
The police said the operation was in response to the Dumus village attack by the suspects. The attack resulted in the death of a 60-year-old man, Isma’il Ibrahim, and left eight others injured.
Adam stated that the suspects remain in custody and are currently undergoing a detailed investigation.
He confirmed that they would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the inquiry.
Adam stated, “The raid is a follow-up to a previous incident where fraudsters from Digawa village attacked Dumus village, resulting in one death and eight injuries.”
He added, “Corpse and injured persons were ferried to Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu for autopsy and medical attention respectively.
“This operation underscores the commitment to safeguarding communities and rooting out criminal elements.”
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities.
Adam assured that “the police command is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
