The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured victims of the recent fire incident in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area, of the state government’s full support to aid their recovery.
The governor described the fire, which happened on January 21, 2025, as an unfortunate event that caused substantial damage to businesses and livelihoods in the community.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo expressed sympathies to those affected by the disaster.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing relief and ensuring that affected individuals receive the necessary assistance to rebuild their lives.
“The fire incident in the Jattu community is a tragic event that has led to the destruction of shops and goods,” the statement read, adding that “Governor Okpebholo extends his heartfelt sympathies to all those affected and assures them that the state government is committed to providing the necessary assistance.”
The governor further stated that the state government is collaborating with key agencies, including the fire service, the emergency management agency, and the local government council, to assess the extent of the damage and provide immediate relief measures.
Okpebholo urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as efforts to mitigate the impact of the fire are underway.
Residents of Jattu and the Etsako West area were urged to report any further damages to the appropriate authorities to facilitate prompt intervention.
