It’s Too Late For APC Allies To Stop Our Convention, Says PDP

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, has declared that it’s too late in the day for those he described as “allies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)” to stop the upcoming PDP national convention.

“It is too late for APC allies within and outside the PDP to stop our November 15-16 national convention in Ibadan,” Ologunagba declared.

The PDP has scheduled its national convention for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where a new set of national officers will be elected.

Ologunagba, who addressed the media on Monday in Abuja, accused some unnamed PDP chieftains and other external forces of attempting to frustrate the exercise.

According to him, the APC is “jittery” over the progress the PDP has made regarding the convention, adding that scheduled national convention is gong to be very significant for Nigeria’s democracy.

“That is why you see the APC being very jittery, which is understandable, because we have a history of sixteen years’ record of prosperity. That was very unlike APC’s years of scarcity,” he said.

Ologunagba named former President Goodluck Jonathan as one of the several individuals that are likely to vie for PDP’s presidential ticket.

“Former President Goodluck Jonathan is only one of the several excellent options that the PDP has for its 2027 presidential ticket,” he said.

THE WHISTLER’s report on Sunday had quoted a former Information Minister, Prof Jerry Gana as saying that the PDP would offer Jonathan its presidential ticket.

Reacting to Gana’s assertion, Ologunagba said there are PDP governors and other prominent individuals who may also be considered for the ticket.

“I don’t speak for Professor Gana or President Jonathan. But our party has many worthy personalities and we shall cross the bridge when we reach there,” he stated.

The party spokesman dismissed claims by some party chieftains authenticating PDP factional congresses held in Plateau, Kebbi and Cross River states recently.

According to the party, congresses in the affected states was postponed by the leadership of the PDP, and that those parading themselves as elected PDP executives in the three states are impostors.

“Emphatically, there was no PDP state congress in Cross River state; we are getting into the season of carnival in Calabar. Those people only went there to do their own carnival and it is okay because Calabar is a friendly place where people have a nice time, drink and have a jolly time.

“This party has its due process and for those who think that they can gather people to have drinks and call it a party congress, that’s mere hallucination.

“As for anyone who seeks to bring the party into disrepute, we will follow them up with proper and due process,” he stated.
