X, formerly Twitter, has made it possible to modify direct messages. Users of iOS can now access this feature.
Once a direct message has been sent to another person, it can be edited.
X announced the functionality on its X account and Help Centre, stating that it “enhances your ability to correct mistakes, refine your thoughts, or update information after sending a message.”
As the name implies, this new feature allows users to update their direct messages (DMs) even after they have been shared on the network.
Interestingly, X (previously Twitter) has not provided a timeline for editing a DM. This means that X users can now amend older communications shared on the platform.
However, the corporation has set a restriction on the number of changes users can make to a message.
According to X’s support manual for the feature, users can only make up to five revisions to a message.
X claims that this was done to ensure that the chats remained coherent.
To edit and alter a Direct Message on X, iOS users should first locate the DM thread. Next, locate the message you want to change inside the thread.
After that, perform a long press on the message or select the three-dot menu.
You will then see the option ‘Edit’ in the menu, which you can select.
It will prompt you to alter the text, and you can do it however you see fit.
Finally, click ‘Save’ to apply your changes.
There are a few changes in how it operates across platforms.
For example, on Android and the web, the receiver of the message you’ve updated will receive a new message containing the most recent version of your message (prefixed by the term “edited” to indicate what’s going on).
On iOS, they will only see the revised message if they have not already seen the original message.
