The Rivers State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has received a significant boost to its road safety efforts, following a donation of 150 reflective jackets by International Breweries Plc.

The donation, which was presented by the Plant Manager of International Breweries’ Port Harcourt plant, Abimbola Akoye, is aimed at enhancing the visibility and safety of FRSC personnel while on duty, particularly during night-time operations.

According to Agoye, the donation is part of the company’s commitment to supporting the FRSC in its efforts to keep roads safe.

He spoke in Port Harcourt during a brief handover ceremony, on Thursday, saying  as a responsible corporate entity, it recognize the importance of road safety, and felt the need  to support the agency in its mission to reduce road crashes and fatalities.

He said: ” The reason why we wanted to collaborate with the FRSC is because they are an integral part of the of our job, they help to keep people safe, and one of our core values is Responsible Drinking, and we always discourage people when they drink and drive.

“And since they support us, one of the Safety jackets that they need is the reflective jacket that can actually, it is a High visibility vest that will make the Officers more visible when they are on the road, and will also help protect passersby.”

In his response, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Rivers State, Corp Commander Inyang Umoh, expressed his gratitude to International Breweries for the donation.

He noted that the donation is a significant boost to their efforts to ensure safe driving on Rivers State roads, adding that the reflective jackets will enhance the visibility of its personnel, particularly during night-time operations, and will help to reduce the risk of accidents.

He said: “The collaboration has been a wonderful one. This is not the first time they have been  supportive on so many ways.

“But this one is unique in the sense that we believe that Road Safety is shared responsibility and we can not do it alone. We seek support of stakeholders and today International  Breweries,  being one of the critical stakeholders that we have not only in Rivers State or Port Harcourt,  but in the whole Nigeria have thought it wise to provide this Safety reflective jackets for our men.

“So what they have done today is going to contribute to our work, it will aid our work, will make our men safe while on the road. Most time we do rescue operation in the day, night and we need reflective jackets.”

The reflective jackets, which are high-visibility and designed to reflect light, will be distributed to FRSC personnel across the state, including those stationed at major highways and intersections.

International Breweries’ Country Corporate Affairs Manager, Dr. Marian Reginald Ukwuoma, added that the donation is part of the company’s broader initiative to promote road safety in Nigeria.

“We are committed to supporting the FRSC and other stakeholders in their efforts to reduce road crashes and fatalities. We believe that road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we are proud to play our part,” she said.
