Imo Gov’t Warns Against Illegal Revenue Collection
The Imo State Government through the Ministry of Transport has raised an alarm to residents of the state following reports of an unauthorised mobile application allegedly used by certain individuals to collect revenue from transport sector operators.
This is according to a statement by the Commissioner for Transport, Emeka Okoronkwo, on Tuesday.
Okoronkwo said that the ministry has been made aware of the rumoured use of the illegal technology within the jurisdiction of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS).
He further emphasised that any digital platform or app not expressly sanctioned by the IIRS is considered unlawful.
Okoronkwo warned all commercial and private transport operators to avoid any unauthorised technology platforms, emphasising that only the official systems established by the state government via the IIRS are valid for revenue transactions.
The statement reads: “The rumour circulating within Imo State Internal Revenue Service that a group of persons operate with an illegal app to collect revenue from operators in the transport sector has come to the attention of Imo State Ministry of Transport.
The Ministry of Transport hereby warns all operators in the transport sector to distance themselves from any technology apart from that used by the state as officially introduced by the Imo State Internal Revenue Service, IIRS.
“Anyone, no matter how highly placed, referenced with this rumoured illegal technology will face the full weight of the law. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.”
