The Imo State Government has read the riot act against individuals or groups that are trespassing into government-owned lands at Area U and Area W Layouts in the state capital, Owerri.

The government, through the Special Adviser to the governor on Monitoring and Compliance, Chinasa Nwaneri, said that the said land was acquired by the state in 1976 and is proposed to be Alaoma Layout and Paradise Layout.

According to Nwaneri, the government will henceforth deal with whoever is caught encroaching or trespassing on the said lands.

He said, “The Imo State Government has observed that, yet to be identified, individuals and groups of people are trespassing into government lands located behind AREA U & AREA W LAYOUTS, which the state government acquired in 1976.

“The land is now rebirth as PROPOSED ALAOMA LAYOUT AND PARADISE LAYOUT RESPECTIVELY.

“The government hereby warns the general public and those individuals or groups of persons, howsoever described, to desist from further acts of trespass into these layouts, including REDEMPTION EXTENSION 3, AVU.

“Henceforth, anyone caught within these aforementioned layouts will be severely dealt with to serve as a deterrent.”

Nwaneri further revealed that the government is set to demolish and recover structures built on government lands and sites, which include Owerri City rail lines, public spaces and areas marked as verge, which have been built on without approval from the Ministry of Lands.

“Further to the above, the state government hereby declares its intention to demolish and recover structures built on government lands/layouts, Owerri City rail lines, public spaces and areas marked (verge), including lock-up shops, which were acquired without due process and approval from the Ministry of Lands.

“The era of illegal acquisition and development of government lands through power of attorney from natives is over; the 3R government shall not condone such illegality as a means of acquiring titles over government layouts in Imo State.”
