The Government of Imo State has terminated the appointment of Chief Sam Udeh’s role as the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

This decision was communicated subsequent to the introduction of Hon. Jeff Eze as the newly appointed chairman of the union.

In a letter dated February 5, 2025, and signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Emeka Okoronkwo, the government revealed that the directive came from the governor as Udeh was ordered to transfer all union assets to the newly appointed chairman, without delay.

The letter reads: “I am pleased to convey to you, that your services are hereby engaged to manage all the Motor Parks in the State.

“You are charged with ensuring that the Commercial Buses operating within the three Senatorial zones of Imo State conduct their businesses at their Private parks and in the absence of that, Government approved Bus Parks.

“Liaise with the Security officials as to ensure that defiant Commercial Bus drivers are reprimanded and punished appropriately in accordance with extant Laws in Imo State.

“To attend to other incidental matters as your Office may require.

“To transmit all accruable revenue from the management into designated
Government Account (TSA).”

The statement said Eze is on probation for 3 months.

While the appointment takes immediate effect, he has been ordered to “report to and be supervised by the Ministry of Transport.”
