Immigration Hands Over Fleeing Enugu Native Doctor Arrested At Border To Police
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Lagos State Command, has handed over a wanted crime suspect, Obi Levi Obieze, to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation into his alleged involvement in the abduction of a 13-year-old girl in Enugu State.
The transfer was confirmed by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement posted Friday on X (formerly Twitter).
“ONGOING: @nigimmigration, Lagos State Command hands over wanted suspect, Obi Levi Obieze, to @LagosPoliceNG at the Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja,” Hundeyin stated.
THE WHISTLER reported that Obieze, who is also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, was apprehended by NIS operatives at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road while attempting to flee Nigeria on a motorcycle.
His arrest followed intelligence linking him to the abduction of the minor in the Isiagu Community of Enugu State.
Authorities say Obieze is a native doctor from Umuajor village in the same state.
A statement issued on Thursday by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration A.S. Akinlabi, on behalf of the Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, said Obieze was wanted by the Enugu State Police Command.
“The suspect is a male individual wanted by the Nigeria Police Enugu State Command for alleged involvement in abduction, kidnapping, and ritual killing,” the statement read.
The incident allegedly happened on May 27, 2025, when the 13-year-old girl was abducted while walking to the farm with her father. She was later rescued from a shrine reportedly linked to Obieze and his two accomplices.
During preliminary questioning, Obieze reportedly confessed to the crimes. His identity was confirmed through a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) enrollment slip found in his possession at the time of arrest.
The Lagos Police Command has taken custody of the suspect as investigations continue.
