‘Iheanacho A Disappointment’ – Sevilla Coach Asks Player To Leave

Sevilla coach, Garcia Pimienta has revealed that Super Eagles star, Kelechi Iheanacho will regain his best form elsewhere following his struggles in Spain.

Iheanacho joined Sevilla as a free agent in the summer after Leicester City released him at the end of his contract.

He has failed to live up to expectations at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán with poor performances for the struggling club.

Pimienta believes that Iheanacho still has what it takes to play at the highest level but not at Sevilla after his poor return of three goals in 11 appearances in all competitions.

He said: “I don’t know the reason, but there are players who fit in better in one environment than in another.

“For whatever reason, he hasn’t performed at the level we expected, but I’m sure that he might do so elsewhere, because I see him training and I see the quality he has.”

He is yet to score in the La Liga despite playing nine times for the club as they battle for consistency.

Sevilla currently occupy the 11th position on the log with 26 points from 20 games with just seven points above the relegation zone.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to England with the likes of Watford, Ipswich Town, and Wolverhampton Wanderers all interested in signing the former Leicester City forward.

Iheanacho started his professional career at Manchester City, where he scored 12 goals in 46 appearances before joining Leicester City in 2017.

He enjoyed a successful time at the King Power Stadium, playing a vital role in leading the club to the FA Cup trophy in 2021 and also the Community Shield.

Iheanacho made his Super Eagles debut against Eswatini in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He was part of the Super Eagles squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

He has scored 15 goals in 57 appearances for Nigeria since making his debut in 2015.

Sevilla will be back in action against Espanyol on Saturday in the Spanish La Liga.
