Two suspected bandits have been killed by local hunters, while ₦10 million paid as ransom for a kidnapped man has been recovered in Falgore Forest, Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State.
This was contained in a statement signed by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Police Public Relations Officer, on Saturday.
According to the statement, the kidnapped victim, identified as 45-year-old Kabiru Aliyu of Falgore Village, was released unharmed after the suspects collected the ransom
The incident occurred at about midnight on Saturday, when three suspected bandits allegedly emerged from Falgore Forest to collect the money demanded for Aliyu’s release.
According to the statement, the victim was kidnapped on September 11, 2026, and had spent several days in captivity before his release.
The police said that shortly after collecting the ₦10 million ransom and releasing the victim, the suspects were ambushed by local hunters known as Yan Bula while returning to their hideout in Falgore Forest.
“During the ambush, two of the suspected bandits were neutralised, while the third suspect escaped with injuries. The entire ransom sum of ₦10 million was recovered intact from the neutralised suspects,” the statement said.
The command said preliminary investigations had identified one of the suspects killed as Dogo Isah, a commercial motorcycle rider from Maigwanda Village in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The police said the suspects were believed to have come from Maigwanda Village before the incident.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the Yan Bula hunters for their efforts in supporting security operations in the area.
Bakori said the hunters’ activities continued to complement the police operation against kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes in the state under Operation Kukan Kura.
Following the incident, the commissioner directed the Area Commander, Divisional Police Officers and tactical teams operating in the area to immediately search the forest and surrounding communities for the fleeing suspect.
He also directed the teams to intensify efforts to arrest the suspect and recover any weapons used by the group.
The police further disclosed that the rescued victim had been debriefed, medically examined and reunited with his family.
The command assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property.
