How man in military uniform stole okada rider’s motorcycle in Lagos
A commercial motorcyclist in Lagos, identified simply as Henry, has narrated how a man dressed in military uniform allegedly stole his motorcycle after tricking him with a fake ATM card.
Henry said the incident happened after the suspect hired him, agreeing to pay N8,000 for a day-long trip that involved moving around several parts of the city and returning to Command Road, Ayobo.
According to Henry, while returning late at night, around 10 p.m., the passenger asked him to stop at a Point of Sale (POS) outlet along Iyana Iba New Road to help withdraw cash using an ATM card.
“As soon as I handed the card to the POS operator, he jumped on my bike and sped off,” Henry recounted.
The theft is one of several similar cases reportedly carried out by criminals dressed in military gear across parts of Lagos.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the case, explaining that luck smiled on Henry when he spotted the suspect with his stolen motorcycle last Monday near First Gate, Igbo–Elerin, on the LASU–Iyana Iba Road.
“An RRS patrol team in the vicinity intervened immediately.
“On sighting Henry and the officers, the suspect, still wearing a military uniform, abandoned the motorcycle and fled the scene,” Hundeyin said.
The motorcycle has since been returned to Henry while a manhunt for the suspect is ongoing.
Hundeyin assured that the fugitive will be tracked down and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar crimes.
