HiLagos Signs MoU With Chinese Firm To Build New Bridge

The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to build the Lekki-Epe Link Bridge in the Lekki-Epe axis of the state.

The signing of the MoU, which was witnessed by President Bola Tinubu, was signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on behalf of Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu is in Beijing, China, attending the 2024 Summit of the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation alongside Tinubu, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Chairman, Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State and Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

Sanwo-Olu, who announced the signing of the MoU on Wednesday, stated that good roads and transport infrastructure are key for economic growth of the state.

According to him, his government aims to reduce traffic congestion and reduce travel time in the state, while supporting economic growth.

The governor disclosed that the state had concluded discussions with CCECC about awarding the EPC contract to the firm, adding that feasibility and design studies for the project have been conducted.

“We believe that good roads and transport infrastructure are essential for the growth of Lagos State, and to support this, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CCECC to build the Lekki-Epe Link Bridge in the Lekki-Epe axis of Lagos State.

“Our strategic transport masterplan is not just a blueprint; it’s a commitment to improving the lives of all Lagosians. By focusing on key road networks, we aim to reduce traffic congestion and create a seamless commuting experience, all while supporting economic growth.

“We have had discussions about awarding the EPC contract to CCECC, and feasibility and design studies for the project have been conducted,” Sanwo-Olu announced in a statement.

The state also signed another MoU to implement solar power systems across its tertiary institutions.

About 50MW of electricity is expected to be generated through these solar systems.

“We also signed another MoU to implement solar power systems across our tertiary institutions, including Lagos State University and its campuses, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine.

“These solar systems, expected to generate about 50 MW, will provide cleaner and more affordable electricity. This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable energy as a key part of our economic development,” Sanwo-Olu said.
