Herder kills teenage farmer in Borno over grazing dispute
A teenage farmer has been killed following a clash with a herder in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Friday in Jatori village, sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama.
According to the report, the herder was said to have led his cattle into a millet and beans farm belonging to the deceased, identified as 18-year-old Isaye Kundili.
An altercation reportedly broke out when Kundili attempted to drive the herd away, during which the herder allegedly shot him in the chest with a bow and arrow before fleeing.
The victim was rushed to the Primary Health Care Centre in Gubio but was confirmed dead while receiving treatment. His remains were later released to relatives for burial in line with Islamic rites.
Police confirmed the incident, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect in collaboration with the herders’ union.
