Guide your children against phone snatching – Kano Shari’ah commission tells parents

The Kano State Shari’ah Commission has expressed deep concern over the growing cases of phone robbery in the state and has called on parents to take full responsibility for guiding their children toward better behavior.

Speaking during a synergy visit to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim A. Bakori, the Chairman of the Commission, Sheikh Abbas Abubakar Daneji, stressed the importance of parental involvement in curbing youth involvement in crime, especially phone theft.

“This unfortunate incident is increasing by the day. The Commission has a vital role to play in fighting this menace, but we cannot succeed without the support of all stakeholders, especially parents and members of the community.”

“I am calling on parents to wake up from slumber and take full responsibility of guiding their children on how to behave properly, just as parents did in the past in our society.”

The Shari’ah Commission Chairman explained that while the Commission’s primary role is to preach and educate the public on religious values, collaboration with law enforcement agencies is necessary due to their power to arrest and prosecute offenders.

“Our duty is to inform people about what is right and wrong from a religious perspective. We need the police and other agencies who have the authority to enforce the law.”

Sheikh Daneji also disclosed that the Commission had recently visited the Chief Judge of Kano State, who expressed the Judiciary’s readiness to work with any group committed to ending phone robbery.

He revealed that discussions are ongoing to end the practice of giving fines as an option for punishment in phone robbery cases.

In response, CP Ibrahim Bakori welcomed the visit, describing it as timely.

He assured the delegation that the police command would continue to work closely with all stakeholders to tackle criminal activities in the state.
