Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has pledged to assist the newly elected governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, by sharing successful development strategies implemented in Lagos.

This commitment was made during a courtesy visit from Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, at the Lagos House in Marina on Saturday.

Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in the potential of Edo State, saying, “I want to assure you that you are not the first that Lagos will be supporting in terms of development templates. There is nothing wrong with copying; you just need to copy well.”

He emphasized that the Lagos State government would make its agencies available to help address the needs of Edo.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Sanwo-Olu encouraged other candidates from the election to join forces with Okpebholo for the betterment of Edo State.

“We saw during our visit that the state can be a lot better, and we believe you have a big heart to transform the state,” he remarked.

Writing on his X page, the governor said: “Today, I received the Governor-Elect of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, at Lagos House, Marina.

“We discussed collaborative efforts that could benefit both Edo and Lagos State. It is clear that Senator Okpebholo has a strong vision for his state and is dedicated to its progress.

“I look forward to seeing the positive impact of his leadership in Edo State as he embarks on this new chapter.”

In response, Okpebholo thanked Sanwo-Olu for his guidance and support during the election process.

He called upon other contestants to unite and work together for the advancement of Edo.

“By the grace of God and the support of the good people of Edo State, we will work to make the lives of our people better,” Okpebholo stated.

Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, emerged victorious in the September 21 governorship election, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

Meanwhile, Yiaga Africa, a civil society organization, has released a report stating that the results for three local government areas (LGAs) in the recent Edo State governorship election were altered during the collation process.

The affected LGAs mentioned by the election observer group are Oredo, Egor, and Esan West.
In a statement signed by Aisha Abdullahi and Samson Itodo, the report asserted that the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission were inconsistent with the data YIAGA collected from polling units.
