Gov Zulum swears in new commissioners

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has sworn in two new commissioners and a member of the Judicial Service Commission, urging them to see their appointments as a call to serve, not a reward.

The brief ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri.

It was presided over by the Chief Judge of Borno State, Justice Kashim Zannah, who administered the oaths of office and allegiance.

The new appointees are Engr. Mohammed Habib and Ibrahim Hala Hassan, who now join the State Executive Council as commissioners, and Alhaji Abba Sadiq, who was inaugurated into the Judicial Service Commission.

Addressing the new officials, Governor Zulum said:

“Let me remind you that this appointment is not just a privilege but a serious responsibility. The people of Borno have high expectations. Mediocrity or low-quality output will not be tolerated,” the governor stated firmly.

He emphasized that the appointments were made purely on merit, pointing out that their experience and integrity were key factors in the decision.

Zulum encouraged them to lead with purpose, remain accountable, and align their work with the long-term vision for the state.

“You must work in line with our 25-Year Development Plan and the 10-Year Strategic Transformation Initiative,” he said.

“Your performance will be evaluated against measurable benchmarks. I appeal to you to remain accountable at all times.”

Promising them the full backing of his administration, Zulum assured that they would be given the tools and support needed to succeed.

He also used the occasion to express his appreciation to other arms of government, especially the legislature and judiciary, for their partnership in moving the state forward.

“I sincerely appreciate the Speaker and Honourable Members for their dedication to good governance and collaborative leadership,” he said.

“I also commend the judiciary for upholding justice, fairness and the rule of law, which continues to inspire public confidence in our institutions.”

The Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Bukar Tijani, earlier described the appointments as part of the government’s effort to consolidate the progress already made under Zulum’s leadership.

On behalf of the appointees, Engr. Mohammed Habib thanked the governor for the trust placed in them.

He said they were fully aware of the weight of the responsibility and promised to give their best: “We are committed to the vision of this administration and will work hard to justify the confidence you have reposed in us.”
