Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on former political thugs to give up violence, assuring them of government support to rebuild their lives and return to society.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, spoke during a one-day meeting with youth cluster leaders under the Safe Corridor Project.
He said the days of carrying weapons for political thuggery or other criminal activities were over.
“We will rehabilitate you and place you in safe environments where you can become self-reliant. Each of you will be assigned roles where you can best fit in,” Waiya assured.
He noted that some beneficiaries previously profiled had passed away, prompting the government to start a fresh verification exercise to update its records.
Waiya stressed that the initiative was purely aimed at tackling thuggery and other social vices, not political gain.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the Kano State Commissioner of Police, the Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the state, and other partners working to combat drug abuse and youth violence.
