Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, represented by the Sole Administrator of Rivers State Muslim Pilgrims Board, Abdulrasaq Diepriye, led Muslim faithful in the state to a special Juma’at prayer service today, commemorating the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The prayer service, held at a mosque in Port Harcourt, was attended by top government officials, Islamic scholars, and members of the Muslim community.

The special prayer is part of a series of activities lined up to honor the nation’s fallen heroes, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the peace and unity of Nigeria.

Governor Fubara’s participation in the prayer service underscores his administration’s commitment to recognizing the bravery and selflessness of Nigeria’s military personnel.

In his message, Governor Fubara urged Nigerians to remember the sacrifices of the fallen heroes and work towards sustaining the nation’s unity and peaceful coexistence.

He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the families of the fallen heroes and ensuring the welfare of military personnel.

The Governor, who was represented by the Sole Administrator, Rivers State Muslim Pilgrims Board, Abdulrasaq Diepriye, observed that it is instructive that the nation appreciates the sacrifices of those who traded their luxury for the peace being enjoyed in the country.

According to him, the Government and people of Rivers State will remain generous to the legionnaires and families left behind by the fallen heroes, adding that only recently, the government donated funds to the legionnaire that will also positively impart widows and children of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Governor Fubara, according to a statement signed by Juliana Masi, Head Press Unit, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, commended the doggedness of security agencies, thanking them for the peace maintained during the Yuletide.

The Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Port Harcourt, Imam Ibrahim Yaloo, who led the special prayers, prayed for God’s guidance and protection for the Armed Forces, just as he called on all Nigerians to continue to support their efforts.

Prayers were also made for the veterans who contributed to the unity of the nation and the repose of the souls of the fallen heroes, the leadership of Nigeria, and Rivers State.

Among other activities scheduled for this year’s memorial in the state are interdenominational church service on Sunday at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Chaplaincy, CIWA and the climax on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 with the laying of wreaths by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other top government officials as well as service chiefs in the state.
