FRSC To Impound Trucks Conveying Humans With Animals
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command, has said it will crack down on the dangerous practice of transporting passengers alongside animals in vehicles.
The Sector Commander, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, announced that any vehicle caught violating the directive would be impounded immediately.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with the Ondo State House of Assembly on Wednesday, Ibitoye said there was an urgent need to address the transportation of humans alongside livestock or goods.
“Enforcement is ongoing to address ‘mixed loading’, which is the mixture of humans and goods/animals. We are not taking it for granted; we will arrest and impound vehicles caught in such an act.
“We are collaborating with stakeholders in ensuring that drivers are cautioned and that they desist from the act.
“When crashes occur, you will think that it’s only the driver with his motor boy that is involved, but surprisingly, you will see over 10 persons in the vehicle, with cows.
“So, we are going on advocacy and enforcement; anybody that is caught will have their vehicle impounded and will be sanctioned accordingly,” Ibitoye said.
To curb the menace, he revealed that the FRSC has intensified advocacy and enforcement efforts, and is working closely with stakeholders to ensure compliance.
He warned that any truck found violating this rule would not only be impounded but also face strict sanctions.
Ibitoye also sought the cooperation of the state legislators, led by Speaker Chief Olamide Oladiji, in ensuring road safety.
He noted that road safety is a collective responsibility and urged road users to exercise patience, avoid overspeeding, and adhere to traffic regulations.
“Patience is the key. Drivers should not overload their vehicles or rush unnecessarily. Proper planning and adherence to road safety rules can save lives,” he added.
