Operatives of the Rivers State Command from the Hawk Unit have arrested four male suspects in connection with criminal activities in Oyigbo Council of the state.

The suspects, identified as Peter Victor, Joshua Ibe, Shedrack David, and Joseph Acholam, were apprehended during a targeted raid at Blessing Street, Kom-Kom in Oyigbo.

According to a statement released by SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, a search of the suspects yielded a disturbing haul, including one round of 7.62×51mm live ammunition and containers with liquid substances suspected to be hard drugs.

Iringe-Koko noted that the suspects have confessed to being part of a criminal syndicate responsible for various acts of terror in Oyigbo and its surrounding areas.

In a related development, operatives from the Rumuji Division intercepted a black Toyota Sienna with registration number ABIA, APR 455 HW at the early hours of January 27, 2025.

The vehicle, driven by one Frank Ukpebitere, was found to be transporting 2,000 tons of 48 VDC Power System Cabinets belonging to Airtel Telecommunications Company.

The Police spokesperson said Ukpebitere failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or documentation for the transportation of these items, which are suspected to have been stolen.

She said: “Upon inspection, officers discovered that the vehicle was transporting 2,000 tons of 48 VDC Power System Cabinets, identified as the property of Airtel Telecommunications Company. The suspect failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or documentation for the transportation of these items, which are suspected to have been stolen.

“Both the suspect and the recovered exhibits are now in police custody as investigations continue.”

However, the Command has reassured the public of its commitment to rooting out crime and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
