Fire Razes Idumota Spare Parts Market
A fire outbreak on Friday night at Idumota Under Bridge, Lagos State, has destroyed properties and goods worth hundreds of millions of naira.
The incident affected several car spare parts shops in the area, leaving shop owners and traders counting their losses.
Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that the agency received an alert about the fire at approximately 10:20 p.m.
“On arrival of the LASEMA Response Teams at the incident scene by 2255hrs, it was discovered that multiple buildings used as shops for sales of car spare parts were found engulfed by fire at the aforementioned location,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He added that the immediate or remote cause of the fire had not been determined as of the time of reporting.
Through the combined efforts of LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Federal Fire Service, the fire was contained, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were recorded during the incident.
This fire outbreak follows another similar incident on Tuesday, when 11 shops at Alayabiagba Boundary Market in the Ajegunle area of Lagos were gutted by fire, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
The affected shops in Ajegunle included two gas retail outlets and nine others selling clothes, phones, PVC pipes, and other essentials.
