Fire Guts Fuel Station In Lagos
There was pandemonium on Wednesday when fire broke out at a fuel station located on Old Akute Road in the Obawole area of Iju Ishaga, within the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly began while a petrol tanker was offloading fuel at the station.
Flames quickly spread, but no casualties or fatalities were reported.
The Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat, confirmed on X that emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene.
He noted that the fire may have originated from a building behind the station, adding that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service was actively working to contain the situation.
In a simultaneous effort, the fire service was also responding to another fire incident on Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island.
According to Gawat, the Oniru Fire Station and other units joined forces to manage that situation as well.
“Our people are on ground, seems the fire started from a Building behind the filling station, @LagosRescue is on it, they are working hard to curtail and contain it.
“Also, the Lagos Fire and rescue service is also handling another fire incident on Ahmadu Bello way Victoria Island simultaneously at the moment too, Oniru fire Station and others have joined in handling it too,” he stated.
Four fire trucks from the Agege, Ikeja, and Alausa headquarters were dispatched to the Obawole site.
At the time of filing this report, the fire had been extinguished and dampening operations were underway to prevent any re-ignition.
