Fire Guts Chinese Recycling Facility In Lagos

A fire outbreak on Monday afternoon engulfed a recycling facility owned by Jincheng Company in the Surulere area of Lagos.

According to the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, the emergency was reported around 12:15 p.m., prompting an immediate response from the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station.

Upon arrival, the fire was already well alight, prompting reinforcement from the Ajegunle Fire Crew to contain the blaze.

Jincheng Company operates a recycling facility spread across approximately three acres of land.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by negligence at the rear of the main building.

The flames quickly spread, affecting a heap of cartons used as raw materials.

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently responding to a fire outbreak at Jincheng Company, located at 11B Eric Moore Road, Surulere, Lagos.

“The emergency was reported at approximately 12:15 hours, prompting the immediate dispatch of first responders from the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station met the fire well alight, necessitating the assistance of the Ajegunle Fire Crew.

“The company operates as a recycling facility situated on approximately three acres of land. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by negligence at the rear of the main building affecting the rip of cartons used as raw materials,” Adeseye said in a statement.

Although the damage to property is yet to be fully assessed, she confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries have been reported.

Adeseye added that firefighters have brought the situation under control, and damping down operations are ongoing to prevent further flare-ups.

“At this time, no casualties have been reported while the situation is under control, including damping down operations, which are ongoing. Further updates may be provided as the situation evolves,” she stated.
