FG’s Vocational Skills Programme Receives 95,000 Applications In 2 Days
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced that the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative has received over 95,000.
Recall that the Federal Government launched the initiative on Friday.
The minister announced this in a post he made on Sunday on X platform.
Part of the incentives include free tuition, accommodation, and feeding.
The government said it is targeting no fewer than 5 million Nigerian youths with industry-relevant, entrepreneurial, and income-generating skills in years to come.
The minister in the post however noted that the ministry have received feedback on some challenges and is working quickly to resolve any issues.
“We’ve received your feedback and are working quickly to resolve any issues. One key area to note: many applications are delayed due to mismatches between names on BVN and NIN records.
“To ensure your application goes through smoothly, please make sure the names on both your BVN and NIN match exactly. If needed, you can update your details at your nearest NIMC centre,” he said.
The TVET initiative is a flagship program of the ministry designed to equip young Nigerians with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
According to information in the website, the certifications is Short Term Certificate Program (STC) for six Months and Vocational Education and Innovation Program (VEI) for one year.
The requirements for application are the candidates’ Bank Verification Number(BVN) and National Identification Number(NIN).
Areas of training include, Electrical Installation,Welding & Fabrication, Painting, Decoration & Finishes (Interior Design),Floor Cladding, Tiling & Interlocking, Brick laying, Blocklaying & Concreting and Network System Installation.
Others include Computer Hardware & GSM Repair & Maintenance, Social Media Communications, Creative Media (Digital Media Production),Motorcycle & Tricycle Repair, Vulcanising & Tire Repair, Auto-body Works (Panel Beating) and Automobile Mechanic.
Also, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning, Plumbing & Pipe-fitting, Woodwork, Carpentry & Joinery, Furniture making & Upholstery, Blacksmithing, Solar PV Installation & Maintenance, Automobile CNG Conversion & Maintenance,Mechanised Agriculture(Mechanics or Operations), Livestock Farming (Bee Keeping, Poultry & Animal Husbandry), Fashion Design & Garment Making and Beauty Therapy & Cosmetology.
